RemarksThen called it C. gigantea Muh. July 1841 to mc. C. mirata D. 1846 Dr. Bradley found it in 1829 "More likely collected by S. B. Bradley who was living in Greece, rather than by H. P. Sartwell who was in Penn Yan" B. Boiving 1979 [Fernald incorrectly gave the collector as H. P. Ssartwell on the provenance label] [protologue: “Shores of Lake Ontario, N.Y. Sartwell. Also found in the State of Georgia. C. arista[ta] Dew. not of R. Br.” Amer. J. Sci. Arts ser. 2, 39: 71. 1865 “In Greece, eleven miles west of Rochester and six south of Lake Ontario, in 1829, by Dr. S. B. Bradley.”
