Remarks[on annotation label top right of sheet] "Estimation of Type Locality - northwestern Chihuahua, ca. 45 air km SW of Nuevo Casas Grandes in the Sa. de la Brena (39°07 N, 108° 10' W - map 1:1,000,000 Chihuahua 08, Inst. Nac. de Estadistica, Geographia e Informacion). GOldman (1951, p. 123,124, Biological Investigations in Mexico, Smithsonian Misc. Coll : 115) writes that on this date the expedition camped at a Mormon sawmill in these mountains at 8000'. They left the mountains on Aug 26 and proceeded northeasterly to Nuevo Casas Grandes." R. Spellenberg May 1989 [on annotation label bottom left of sheet] "Trelease (1924), The American Oaks, Mem. Nat. Acad. Sci, Vol. 20, provides name f. pallidinervis in key (p. 90) and var. pallidinervis in description (p. 91), citing two specimens, including this collection. In the caption to the lower figure of Plate 146 he uses the name Quercus oblongifolia pallidinervis, without indication of rank of varietal epithet, citing Nelson 6309 as the type, but indicates place of its deposition as “Washington.” The photo is unquestionably of this specimen, for the acorn on the twig at the right, partly covered by the insect-chewed leaf to the left of the acorn, and next to the partly folded leaf to the right of the acorn, is identical to the photo in Trelease’s plate 146. This specimen is therefore designated the holotype."
