[from B. C. Johnston 1979- "This specimen (Duplicate of Shockley 592 in 1888, cited and annotated by Rydberg) was the first-cited specimen in the protologue of Potentilla pseudosericea Rydberg, Mem. Dept. Bot. Columbia Univ. 2:98 t.36 (1898). However, this name is based on the specimen of Potentilla holosericea Nuttall, non P. holosericea Griseb., collected in the "Rocky Mountains" by Nuttall, which specimen (PH!) is obviously a tall (relative to Shockley 592) subdigitate form of P. pensylvanica L. Fremont 218 (NY!), also cited in the protologue of P. pseudosericea, is also more typical than the Shockley specimen. The two taxa are amply distinct."] |
