Remarks

Annotated as Isoetes x truncata Clute (I. maritima x I. occidentalis) by D. M. Britton, May 1992. Britton's notes: "The name I. columnifera does not appear in Brown (1938) or Reed (1953 - Index Isoetales) and seems to have been dropped by A. A. Eaton in favor of I. echinospora var. truncata in 1901. Clute, 1905 in Fern Allies 222-223, 260 raised to I. truncata Clute with the words 'the author would be inclined to call this a distinct species'. It is not clear why Eaton cites Coville, Mearns 2337 as type, whereas this isotype is Coville, Kearney 2337. D. M. Britton May 1992."
