Jones annotation (1983): "Having been unsuccessful in locating any specimen marked by the authors, I am (with some reservation) designating this sheet as the LECTOTYPE or (since no other authentic material seems to exist) as the NEOTYPE. This is also the LECTOTYPE or NEOTYPE of Aster falcidens Burgess in Small, Flora S. E. United States, 1219, 1340, 1903, a renaming of the above (non Banks, 1836)"
