RemarksThe author of the species may have cited a mis-numbered specimen (1402 instead of 1420; see 62177). This particular specimen, from GH, has a label handwritten by A. Fendler; all other duplicated may have labels written by Asa Gray or one of his assistants (A. Gray distributed A.F.'s collections),who may have made a mistake . In the numbering of these sheets (the sheet 1402 came to Harvard from the Herbarium of John A. Lowell). Fendler's field notes are at GH, but he left a gap between the number 1359 and 1490 and labelled it "Orchideae". GH also has a list of ferns collected by A.F., but no orchid list was found (it may be in the Lindley herbarium or Library: Lindley described most of Fendler's orchidaceae)
