RemarksFruits and flowers buds. This species, though nowhere abundant, and always scattered, is not so rare as i supposed; I have seen perhaps 25 or 30 trees in various places between 7500-8500 ft. it seems to be distributed through the Picea. Rhododendron forest belt. and has seeded well. There may be 20 or more fruits on a truss. the snowy white capsules and under leaf surface are very striking as is the tattered red papery bark
