RemarksA fine tall palm remarkable for the distichous arrangement of its leaves; trunk 16.6 m. long x 23 cm. diameter near base; leaves 12, arranged in two series, base shortly stem clasping, lamina 3 m. long, petiole and base 1.3 m., pinnae shing grey underneath; several erect axillary panicles 1.2-1.3 m. long; male flowers in pairs with sometimes a female close below, the female flowers usually near base of panicle branches; large orange-red spherical fruit, about 6.5 cm. diameter, lobed fruit containing 2 or 3 seeds not uncommon; the "nuts" are apparently rich in oil; abundant.
