Near by a large tract of level land, low and peaty was filled with Thalictrum Cornuti [tall meadow-rue]. I never saw so much before. Since I have been here I have seen several such fields. The woods were full of Quercus alba, tinctoria, & rubra [white, black & red oaks]. The Osmundas were abundant, especially O. cinnamomea." W. Deane Journal] |
