Remarks[“Sept. 25. . . P. M. – To Harrington road.”Journal 9: 90. 1856; "Apparently the A[ster] longifolius varies from very narrow long & tapering leaves more or less toothed or entire with white flowers & smooth stem, to lanceolate toothed leaves 7/8 inch wide -- bluish flowers -- & roughish stem -- but always the flowers are large & the scales recurved -- while those of A[ster] puniceus are not recurved & its flowers are smaller -- The A.[ster] longifolius then varies much." unpublished passage for Journal 25 Sept.1856]
