Remarksaltered & Downy catkinned var[iety] of [Salix] Petiolaris Aug 25 '57 ["The text after "rock" is circled and clearly meant to be a reference to his Journal and not a date of collection" fide R. L. Angelo (in litt.) 18 Jan. 2019. "What I called S.[alix] sericea, I will call the downy catkinned var. of the former [Salix petiolaris, referred to first in the previous paragraph] its leaves become smooth beneath." unpublished passage from Journal Aug. 25, 1857.
